5 Minute Mindfulness Meditation

 

A career in TV and media can mean very long working days especially for production staff. 

Working on location, travelling abroad or working in studio can affect schedules and impact on diary commitments affecting how much time you get to spend on your own interests or with friends and family, relaxing and having fun.

It’s a high octane environment and at times stress and worry are inevitable.

Worrying about work issues or ruminating on conversations (often in the middle of the night around 3am!) occurs in the thinking part of the brain in the neo-cortex (because worry is thought based) and the part of the brain that responds to these thoughts and emotions is the limbic system.

Whether the worry or threat is real or imagined (such as thinking about the worst case scenario), ruminating over worries/work/relationships can stimulate our fight or flight response and this can be draining and make us feel exhausted

Mindfulness helps to reduce worry and can help relieve stress, improve heart health, lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain, improve sleep, and alleviate gastrointestinal difficulties.

The way we think about things really does affect how we feel, and that in turn can very much affect our behaviour.

This simple meditation helps to restore peace of mind and sense of wellbeing after a busy day, and when practise regularly can reduce an over stimulated fight or flight response and relieve anxiety.
